Giorgio Vallortigara

In 1983 he graduated in Experimental Psychology at the University of Padua, where he also obtained a PhD in 1990. In 1991 he moved to the University of Sussex, near Brighton, with a post-doctorate scholarship.
Vallortigara was the first scientist to provide evidence of functional lateralization in the brains of birds; he also discovered brain lateralization in the lower vertebrates, such as fish and amphibians.
Many of his articles have been published in Nature, Current Biology, Neuropsychology, Behavioral Neuroscience and Brain and Behavioral Sciences.
