Caedmon: a Third Dimension for the Printed Page.
Caedmon Records, formed in New York in 1952 by Barbara Holdridge and Marianne Roney, was the first company to sell spoken word recordings to the public. The first Caedmon release was read by Dylan Thomas, and contained "A Child's Christmas in Wales" and selected poems. This Dylan Thomas release was selected for the United States National Recording Registry.
Raytheon bought Caedmon in 1971. Harper & Row purchased the label in 1987.
