Wilhelm Matthießen

Wilhelm Matthießen (born 8 August 1891 - died 26 November 1965) was a German writer. Influenced by northern mythology and romanticism, he wrote fantasy novels, narratives and fairy tales, starting with Die Nacht im Bücherschrank (1918). In the late 1930s he also wrote several antisemitic and anti-clerical works like Der Schlüssel zur Kirchenmacht (1937). After 1949 he resumed writing non-political children's literature, without distancing himself from his political works.
