Michael Riordan

Michael Riordan, along with Lillian Hoddeson, is the co-author of Crystal Fire: The Birth of the Information Age, which chronicles the history of the transistor.
Calling on his background in both particle physics and writing, Riordan has authored (and edited) a number of science books, including The Hunting of the Quark: A True Story of Modern Physics, which won the American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award.
Riordan earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from MIT, finishing up his Ph.D. in 1973.
In addition to teaching and doing research at a number of universities, he was Staff Scientist and Assistant to the President of the Universities Research Association from 1990 to 1991.
Currently he is Assistant to the Director at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, and a researcher with the Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics at the University of California in Santa Cruz.
