The character of Paul Benjamin appears in the novel "Death Wish" from author Brian Garfield, published in 1972 and its 1975 sequel "Death Sentence". Part one was made into a movie in 1974, directed by Michael Winner, starring Charles Bronson, renaming the character to Paul Kersey. The movie was a box-office success and spawned 4 sequels.
The second novel was made into a movie in 2007, directed by James Wan, starring Kevin Bacon, renaming the character to Nick Hume. The screenplay is based very loosely on the books plot.
