Hardcore punk (often abbreviated to hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock.
In the UK the term 'hardcore punk' came in to use from about 1980 onwards when referring to groups and fans. The archetypal groups being The Exploited and Discharge. The American Hardcore scene developed separately from the UK one with slightly different styles and aesthetics.
