William John Gilmour Pidgeon (1 March 1947 – 19 July 2016) was a British journalist, author, music historian, radio producer, comedy executive and crossword compiler. He worked as a music journalist for the New Musical Express in the early 1970s and Melody Maker in the late 1970s. He also edited Let It Rock. He later went to work for the BBC. In 2010 he began compiling crosswords for The Daily Telegraph, where his Toughie puzzles are attributed to Petitjean.
