Varlam Shalamov

Varlam Tikhonovich Shalamov (Russian: Варлам Тихонович Шаламов) (born 18 June [O.S. 5 June] 1907 – died 17 January 1982) was a Russian writer of the Soviet era. He survived a total of 17 years in the Gulag. His most famous work is Колымские рассказы (Kolyma Tales), a collection of short stories about life in the labor camps.
